Hugh White is Professor of Strategic Studies at Australian National University and a Visiting Fellow at the Lowy Institute for International Policy. In this keynote address to the 2011 ACYD he discusses the key questions and issues around Australia’s place in Asia. In particular, he talks about how China’s economic growth affects Australia’s security and challenges Australia’s relationship with the United States of America.

In this keynote address to the 2011 ACYD he talks about how Australia came to be economically engaged with Asia, from 1957 to the present day. He then goes on to explain how Australia has positioned itself to take advantage of the coming Asian Century.
