The 14th Australia-China Youth Dialogue (ACYD) will be held in Adelaide this year from Friday 22nd November to Monday 25th November 2024, bringing together 28 delegates from both countries. The four-day conference will explore the overarching theme of Planning for The Future By Learning From The Past, with each day focusing on a particular topic including: Geopolitics, Trade and Investment, Education and Tourism, Energy and Sustainability. This year's dialogue will include panel discussions and interactive workshops, to be led by expert speakers from Australian government and universities, Australia-based Chinese companies, to bring discussions, insights and a more sophisticated understanding of the bilateral trade and investment relationship.
On March 27, 2024, Qin Qin (2013 ACYD Alumni) published her book named Model Minority Gone Rogue – the story of Qin Qin. The book unpacks her incredible journey as a model Asian daughter growing up in Australia and how she decided to take the path less walked by which will no doubt inspire many. Congratulations Qin Qin!
James Tang, Executive Director of the Australia-China Youth Dialogue, was invited by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations (NFACR) and Foreign Minister Penny Wong to attend the 8th Australia-China High-Level Dialogue as a delegate. He participated in discussions alongside senior officials such as Former Trade Minister Dr. Craig Emerson and Wang Chao, Honorary President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs.
The Australia China Youth Dialogue (ACYD) provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with and be inspired by emerging leaders who are passionate about contributing to the bilateral relationship in a constructive way. The 12th ACYD coincided with historic talks in Bali and the 50th anniversary of the Australia-China relationship, underscoring the importance of the ACYD mission to promote frequent and meaningful dialogue and cross-cultural exchange. It is an honour to be joining the ACYD alumni network and I encourage those with an interest in the Australia-China relationship to apply.
The 12th ACYD has successfully brought Australian and Chinese emerging leaders numerous miles together to celebrate the Australia-China 50 years of diplomatic relations, brainstorm emerging global challenges, spot new opportunities and plan for future success. It has also brought in inspirational leaders from the Australian China community to empower us to design for greater impact, especially in restoring social cohesion and economic prosperity post-COVID-19 recovery. This significant dialogue will no doubt enhance the fellowship between our diverse perspectives with the shared mission through mutual support and continuous connection.
I would highly recommend the ACYD to any business leader who wants to better understand how constructive Australia-China relations relate to Australia’s ongoing economic stability and prosperity. The sessions explore much more than just bilateral trade and diplomacy. They challenge delegates to think holistically about how Australia is perceived on the global stage, and how our role and identity in Asia is changing. Humbling and insightful.

Participating in 2022’s Australia China Youth Dialogue was a thought provoking, inspiring experience – one that left me with a much deeper understanding of Australia and China’s important bilateral relationship. The forum created by the Dialogue organisers sits under Chatham house rules – this in turn meant the conversations we had were open and productive, touching on important areas for the relationship including trade and sustainability. I have already spoken to several friends about the Dialogue and would encourage those interested in international affairs and the Australia-China relationship to apply
The Australia China Youth Dialogue provides a fantastic opportunity for potential young leaders from various industries across countries to share their stories, experiences and views, it also be a bridge connecting non-government level exchange. More importantly, the ACYD community keep growing each year, greatly fostering the bilateral relationship between Australia and China.
