The Australia-China Youth Dialogue (ACYD) could not operate without the generous support of its partners. Through their contribution to the ACYD, our partner organisations demonstrate a commitment to nurturing a community of active, visible and connected figures in Australia-China affairs.
This year’s delegates are emerging leaders coming from a wide range of professions – policymakers, analysts, technologists, senior managers, creatives, academics and entrepreneurs. They will come together in Chengdu, China for a 4 day dialogue, bringing with them their experience and expertise from various fields to discuss issues pertinent to the future of the Australia China relationship.
The enclosed report provides an overview of the 11th and 12th ACYD events, which took place inHobart, Tasmania, and Perth, Western Australia, in May and November 2022, respectively. Unique tothis year, two dialogues were conducted due to interruptions caused by COVID-19 in 2020 and 2021.
The Australia China Youth Dialogue (ACYD) provides a wonderful opportunity to connect with and be inspired by emerging leaders who are passionate about contributing to the bilateral relationship in a constructive way. The 12th ACYD coincided with historic talks in Bali and the 50th anniversary of the Australia-China relationship, underscoring the importance of the ACYD mission to promote frequent and meaningful dialogue and cross-cultural exchange. It is an honour to be joining the ACYD alumni network and I encourage those with an interest in the Australia-China relationship to apply.

CHINESE PROVERB: A LOST OPPORTUNITY NEVER RETURNS (机不可失, 时不再来) Australia’s perception of China has been shaped by Shanghai’s glamour, the halls of power in Beijing and Shenzhen’s vibrant economy. These centres are important, but for Australian businesses there are opportunities elsewhere in China.
In June 24, the Australian embassy invited Lisa Qin, one of the 2013 ACYD delegates, and 2014 & 2015 ACYD organisers to speak as a representative of ACYD/ACYPI. Lisa talked about her Australia China story, as well as the importance of the networks and support she had received through ACYD. Here is her speech.

On Saturday, 28 March, Henry Makeham, the ACYD’s Founder and Chair of the Board, was co-awarded the 2015 Australian National University Young Alumnus of the Year award.
The Award recognised Henry’s efforts in promoting Australia-China youth relations and public diplomacy via the Australia-China Youth Dialogue, the Australia-China Youth Association, and the Australia-China Young Professionals Initiative.
