40 Under 40 Most influential Asian Australians were recognised during the inaugural Asian-Australian Leadership Summit, in Melbourne on 12-13 September.

Trailblazing software engineer Dr Muneera Bano was been named the overall winner of the 40 Under 40 list also including well-known educator Eddie Woo, author Benjamin Law, infectious disease specialist Dr Meru Sheel and Airtasker founder Tim Fung.

“Dr Bano is a highly visible role model for women in STEM, whose personal journey is incredibly inspiring,” said Jason Johnson, Managing Director of executive search firm Johnson, and one of eight judges who assessed the nominations.

“All 40 named on this list are accomplished leaders in their sectors - and it demonstrates that there is an extraordinary cohort of next-generation Asian-Australians that need to be recognised for their powerful contribution to this country,” says Jason Johnson.

2011 alum, Dr. Mimi Zou, Fellow in Chinese Commercial Law, Oxford University, was shortlisted for the education category.
2012 alum, Shuyin Tang, Partner, Patamar Capital, was shortlisted for the corporate category.
2012 alum, Alan Wu, Member of the Board, Oxfam Australia, was shortlisted for the community and advocacy category.
2014 alum, Helen Dai, Director, Office of Deputy CEO Austrade, was shortlisted for the public sector and government category.
2017 alum, Yen Tan, Regional Director (Hong Kong, Macau and South China), Trade & Investment Northern Ireland The British Consulate-General Hong Kong, was shortlisted for the public sector and government category.

With Asian-Australians holding less than four percent of senior leadership positions in Australia, despite accounting for around 12 percent of the Australian population, the awards celebrate the success stories and impact of these influential and emerging leaders.
