PRESS RELEASE: Meet the delegates of the 13th Australia China Youth Dialogue

PRESS RELEASE: Meet the delegates of the 13th Australia China Youth Dialogue (ACYD)

This year’s delegates are emerging leaders coming from a wide range of professions – policymakers, analysts, technologists, senior managers, creatives, academics and entrepreneurs. They will come together in Chengdu, China for a 4 day dialogue, bringing with them their experience and expertise from various fields to discuss issues pertinent to the future of the Australia China relationship.

Overarching theme: Evolving Dynamics

In the post-COVID era, the dynamics of the Australia-China relationship are undeniably starting to evolve as ties warm and constructive bilateral engagement recommences. Against the backdrop of a new government, opportunities for dialogue are re-emerging, while the resumption of cross-cultural exchanges at all levels signifies a positive shift. The ACYD appreciates these evolving dynamics and, with optimism and candour, seeks to explore the new possibilities that lie ahead.

What is the ACYD?

The Australia-China Youth Dialogue (“ACYD”) is the preeminent inter-disciplinary early career leaders’ dialogue between Australia and Greater China. ACYD was founded in 2010 on the back of a need for more institutionalised dialogue between Australia and Greater China, as noted by Dr Stephen Fitzgerald, Australia’s first ambassador to China, in his 2009 article “Learning to Live with China”.

Each year since 2010 (with the exception of 2020 due to COVID-19), The ACYD has brought together 30 outstanding Australian and Chinese citizens between the ages of 25-40 years to participate in a track-II diplomatic dialogue hosted in either Australia or China.

The 13th ACYD will be held in Chengdu this year from Friday 17th November to Monday 20th November, 2023. The four day conference will explore the overarching theme of Evolving Dynamics, with each day focusing on a particular topic including a new world order, trade and investment, sustainability, and healthcare.

This year's dialogue will involve numerous site visits to Australian companies with facilities and operations in China and Chinese companies with partnership or collaboration with Australia. The dialogue will include panel discussions, fireside chats, and interactive workshops. We have invited expert speakers from around greater China (with notable focus on China's south west region)and from around Australia, to bring insights and a more sophisticated understanding of the bilateral relationship.
