On August 16, 2024, the 8th Australia-China High-Level Dialogue was held in Adelaide. Forty delegates from China and Australia convened to engage in open discussions on a range of topics, including bilateral relations, trade and investment, regional and international issues, and people-to-people links.
James Tang, Executive Director of the Australia-China Youth Dialogue, was invited by the National Foundation for Australia-China Relations (NFACR) and Foreign Minister Penny Wong to attend the event as a delegate. He participated in discussions alongside senior officials such as Former Trade Minister Dr. Craig Emerson and Wang Chao, Honorary President of the Chinese People’s Institute of Foreign Affairs.
In his address, James called for a sustained commitment to dialogue, increased investment in cross-cultural exchanges, and the celebration of successful people-to-people connections. He also underscored the importance of youth and cultural exchange initiatives, such as the Australia-China Youth Dialogue (ACYD).
The ACYD aims to advance the Australia-China relationship by promoting frequent and meaningful dialogue between leaders from the two regions. Since 2010, the ACYD has been held over 4 days in either Australia or China, bringing together 30 delegates as well as speakers to discuss the bilateral relationship.
The 14th Australia-China Youth Dialogue will be held in Adelaide this November. It will continue the dialogue and fruitful discussions with the delegates from 2024.
